Changes to Hazardous Material Shipping Regulations in 2025

 

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) published regulation changes for 2025, which may impact University units and departments that ship dangerous goods by air.

If you ship dangerous goods, please note the following significant changes:

Dangerous Goods Carried by Passengers or Crew

As noted in 2.3.2.4.3 clarifies that when a lithium-ion battery remains installed in a mobility aid, there is no Watt-hour limit.

Classification

As noted in 3.6.2.2.2.1, MPox virus is listed as a category A pathogen when in culture form only.

  • UN 3551 Sodium ion batteries
  • UN 3552 Sodium ion batteries contained in equipment
  • UN 3552 Sodium ion batteries packed in equipment
  • UN 3556 Vehicle, lithium-ion battery powered
  • UN3557 Vehicle, lithium metal battery powered
  • UN3558 Vehicle, sodium ion battery powered

Due to patient confidentiality, provision were made for alternative means of providing the name and address of the shipper and/or consignee.
