Motorboat Operator Training Course

Intended audience

This course is required for University personnel who are operators of motorized watercraft less than 65’ in length. The course is recommended for UW employees, students, or volunteers who operate motorboats as part of their work. Retraining is required every five (5) years.

Description

This course includes both classroom and hands-on instruction to meet minimum requirements for safe operation of motorboats. It addresses legal requirements, preparations, navigation, operations, emergency procedures, rescue, self-rescue, trailering, fire suppression, and basic seamanship. Students must pass a written exam and an on-the-water practical exam.
