Symptom Development
If you are an employee who works in the UW BSL-3 or Select Agent laboratory and develop symptoms, you are required to:
- Contact the EH&S Employee Health Center for evaluation.
- Notify an EH&S Alternate Responsible Official (ARO) or the Responsible Official (RO).
Symptom development is:
- Temperature >100.4°F (38°C), and/or
- Symptoms consistent with infection from research agents.
Notification Procedures
If you develop a fever or symptoms as defined above, put on a face mask and follow these steps:
- Seek medical evaluation
- During business hours, call Employee Health Center at 206-685-1026 (select option 0).
- Outside business hours, call the UW Medical Center Paging Operator at 206-906-8082.
- Identify yourself as a UW BSL-3 worker. Request the Campus Health Physician. Be prepared to provide your name and phone number.
- If no response within 30 minutes, wear a face mask and go to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) Emergency Department (ED). If unable to go to HMC, wear a face mask, go to nearest ED, and present this card.
- Notify EH&S
- During business hours, call the EH&S Biosafety Office at 206-221-7770.
- Outside business hours, call an ARO or the RO.
