EH&S developed a lab safety performance rating using 30 questions from the Laboratory Safety Checklist that focus on chemical safety, training and personal protective equipment. The 30 selected questions are common to institutions performing laboratory safety surveys and have been vetted by an advisory task force. The online Lab Survey Dashboard allows PIs and chemical hygiene officers to view their lab’s safety performance rating, their department and college averages, and the University-wide average.
The UW lab safety performance target is a rating of 85 out of 100. Labs that receive a rating of 85 or higher on their most recent survey will receive a Lab Safety Award. Labs can display their award by updating and printing out a new copy of their Caution Sign through MyChem, or they can print out an award certificate through the Lab Survey Dashboard.
Labs that participate in UW Sustainability’s Green Laboratory Program can also display their Green Laboratory Certification symbol on their Caution Sign by updating their sign through MyChem.
