Intended Audience

This course is required for University personnel who work in Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratories at the UW. It utilizes classroom courses, scenarios, and hands-on demonstrations to reinforce the concepts of safe work practices including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the importance of personal protection. The training is scheduled as needed and is suitable for all BSL-3 research staff, facility managers and biosafety officers.

Training is required initially, and retraining is required annually for UW faculty and staff enrolled in the UW BSL-3 Program.

Description

This course teaches BSL-3 biosafety principles and practices, roles and responsibilities, risk assessments, BSL-3 facility operations and management, BSL-3 laboratory practices, biosafety cabinet practices and procedures, donning and doffing PPE, waste management requirements, occupational health requirements, emergency/incident response procedures, and safety and security procedures.
